1/ Visiting Chair

A 3 to 6 months Chair is proposed every year by the Labex CelTisPhyBio to invite foreign professors, with a research project either related to the existing collaborative projects of CelTisPhyBio or allowing the emergence of a new collaborative project within the Labex. Candidate professors can apply to the CelTisPhyBio Visiting Chair.

Applications will be evaluated throughout the year during the Steering Committee meetings. All applications must be received at least one week before the next evaluation session.

See “RESEARCH / LabEx programs” for more information.

2 / Postdoctoral program

Several postdoctoral fellowships are available at “Labex CelTisPhyBio” laboratories. Fellowships are for one year since their main purpose is for initiating new research projects. The grantees will be asked to apply for the stipends from other funding sources during their first year in the laboratory in order to liberate Labex funding as early as possible to allow funding of other candidates. The grant is determined according to the applicant’s age and experience.

Applications will be evaluated throughout the year during the Steering Committee meetings. All applications must be received at least one week before the next evaluation session.

See “RESEARCH / LabEx programs” for more information.

Postdoctoral position in hair-cell biophysics

Place: Laboratoire Physico-Chimie Curie, Institut Curie, Paris (France)

Position : post-doctoral position

Bullfrog hair bundle crop_PG

GENERAL RESEARCH: Our group studies mechano-sensitivity by the cellular microphones of the inner ear ‒the hair cells. Each hair cell is endowed with a beautiful tuft of elongated microvilli ‒the hair bundle‒ that works both as receptor antenna and mechanical amplifier for sound detection by the cell. To shed light on this active sensory process, we are developing mechanical, electrophysiological and theoretical approaches to probe the biophysical properties of single cells.

POSITION: We are looking for a young scientist interested in working at the interface between physics and biology. Both experimental physicists and biologists dedicated to quantitative approaches are welcome. Past experience in cell or biomolecule mechanics, or electrophysiology would be advantageous but is not mandatory. We propose to work on the biophysical mechanisms that tune each hair cell to a characteristic frequency of sound-evoked vibration.

DURATION: 24 months (position available immediately).

ENVIRONMENT: the Institut Curie offers a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, and creative environment. The department Physico-Chimie Curie is internationally recognized as a premiere center for physical approaches of biological problems. It is conveniently located at the heart of the Latin Quarter, in central Paris. Web: https://science.institut-curie.org/umr168

If interested, please send a short letter describing your motivations and past achievements, curriculum vitae, and two letters of reference.
